Signing a winger or two has to be near the top of Celtic's wishlist this summer. They have already said goodbye to Nicolas Kuhn and Luis Palma, while Marco Tilio is on his way out as well with a move to Rapid Vienna believed to be on the verge of completion. Add to that Jota's long-term injury and Brendan Rodgers does not have too many options on the flanks.
We have seen Celtic being linked with plenty of wingers in recent times. Belgian youth international Michel-Ange Balikwisha is one such player. There have been conflicting rumours surrounding him.
It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move for Balikwisha. On the other hand, they must have an eye on the free agent market as well as they might have some pretty good options to pick from there.
One of them is Tyrhys Dolan, who has left Blackburn Rovers recently after his contract with the Championship club ran out. Celtic have been urged to sign him. As reported by the Daily Record, Charlie Mulgrew said:
"I think Brendan Rodgers would love a winger who has goal contributions and who can score goals. I think that’s an area that they can improve on.
"Somebody asked there, ‘who I would sign for Celtic?’, I would sign Tyrhys Dolan. He is out of contract with Blackburn, a winger. He was a young lad coming through at Blackburn. He was brilliant last year. He is out of contract, so I would go and sign him."
Celtic told to sign 23-year-old English winger for free
Dolan is coming off a standout campaign with Blackburn Rovers and might be exactly what Celtic need at this point in time. Not only would he be a solid addition on the wing, but he is available as a free agent as well.
Surely, that would make any move for Dolan even more attractive for Celtic. That being said, there are other clubs interested in signing him as well, including Espanyol. Earlier in the summer, the Rangers were linked with the 23-year-old English winger as well.
So, any move for Dolan might not be simple. But Celtic do have the ability to offer him the chance to compete for trophies on a consistent basis as well as European football.
Dolan scored 7 goals and provided 6 assists for Blackburn Rovers last season while mostly operating on the right flank or through the middle. Those numbers might not pop off the page but his contributions helped his side finish 7th in the Championship, their best since dropping down from the Premier League more than a decade back.
