Martin O'Neill has been backed to stay on as Celtic boss and to get his team back to winning ways. the Bhoys went into the international break in rotten form, losing three on the bounce which included two Old Firm defeats.
But the nature of the defeats felt much more significant, with Celtic struggling to drum up any kind of spirited performances, largely looking flat, even in the derby games.
On the back of those games, O'Neill questioned whether he is right for the job at his age, and he hinted that he could walk away if he couldn't see a path to better form between his skillset and the squad he has.
But it appears as though he is staying put for now, with the return of club football now just a week away. And former Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham is backing O'Neill to get Celtic back on track after the break.
“Martin O’Neill isn’t going to walk away,” said to Hajper. “I think he loves what he’s doing, and he does it well. What else would he be doing if he wasn’t manager?
“He’s 77 but he’s not an old 77 and it’s only health problems that will send you the other way when you get to that age.
“He’s still fit and healthy, and you can tell by the way he talks about the game that he still loves it and he knows everything there is to know about it too, don’t forget.
“I worked under Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest and O’Neill comes from that school. It’s not rocket science. Football is a simple game made hard by complicated people. O’Neill will get Celtic back to winning ways, carrying on doing the job the way he knows how to do it best.”
Celtic are still top of the Premiership, and while they have some difficult Europa League games to come, they still have seven of the eight games to play, so their European campaign certainly remains in their own hands.
There are systemic and personnel issues in this Celtic team, but it's hard to deny that the biggest hurdle is a mental one. The Bhoys are crumbling when things start to go against them in tricky games.
But O'Neill is certainly capable of overcoming that challenge, as he showed last season, when he took over a struggling side and turned them into league and cup champions.
