Celtic did not fill their need for a striker this summer. Not only was Kyogo not replaced once again, but they also sanctioned Adam Idah's departure without having a replacement in place first. The Hoops did try to sign Kasper Dolberg but he chose to join Ajax instead and the Scottish champions failed to to bring in somebody else on deadline day. Kelechi Iheanacho was signed as a free agent afterwards, but is he the solution for the Hoops?

Iheanacho has not delivered in a few years now. Last season, he scored just four times across spells at Sevilla and Middlesbrough. Celtic need someone in form, and scoring for fun.

They have been linked with a few more free agent strikers. But nobody who fits the above criteria seems to be available at the moment. So, it might be worth them waiting for the January window and then making a proper signing.

67 Hail Hail recently put out a list of strikers that should be on Celtic’s January 2026 transfer window wishlist. One of the players on there is Hugo Cuypers.

Celtic tipped to sign in-form Belgian striker in January

Cuypers is a 28-year-old Belgian striker. He currently plays for Chicago Fire. But he has not gone to the MLS because he was struggling to produce in Europe.

On the contrary, in his time with Gent immediately before heading to the MLS, he scored 51 goals and provided 15 assists in 91 appearances for the Belgian side. In the ongoing campaign, he has scored 18 times in 30 games for Chicago Fire.

So, someone with that kind of goalscoring touch could be a very good addition to this Celtic team. And at 28 years of age, he is only entering his prime on the pitch. The Hoops should make their move for Cuypers this January.
