It is not a secret that Celtic could do with another striker. Johnny Kenny has been a revelation under the management of Martin O'Neill but will he retain his place in the team once a permanent manager replaces him? Also, what does the future hold for Kelechi Iheanacho now that Brendan Rodgers has left? Callum Osmand showed a ton of promise before picking up a long-term injury.
As a result, that striking department is surrounded by questions at the moment. Daizen Maeda managed 30-plus goals last season but is being tipped for a January exit as well, having been denied a move away in the summer.
Wilfried Nancy is looking like the favourite for the vacant Celtic job at the moment. And with the January transfer window coming up, if the Frenchman does get the post, the Hoops must back him with some quality additions to the squad.
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Celtic are already fans of one of Nancy’s strikers at Columbus Crew. They could rekindle their interest in January should he want to reunite with him.
Celtic tipped to sign Columbus Crew striker alongside Wilfried Nancy
The player in question is none other than Jacen Russell-Rowe. There were reports last year that Celtic had failed in multiple attempts to sign the Canadian international striker.
The issue is, Russell-Rowe does not have a great goalscoring record. In 109 total appearances for Columbus Crew, he has scored 22 times. So, that might not be the kind of striker that Celtic should be eyeing right now, as they need some guaranteed goals.
It remains to be seen if Celtic even end up going for a striker in January. For many, it feels like common sense. But then again, we thought the same thing in the previous two windows and they did not.
