It is not often that Celtic sign players from clubs like Manchester United unless they are youngsters struggling to break into the senior game. And even then, that is rare. That has not stopped the Hoops from being linked with one of the Premier League club's most experienced stars though, as they begin the Ruben Amorim era, with the Portuguese manager replacing Erik ten Hag.
Christian Eriksen has been a regular contributor for Manchester United this season. But there have been suggestions that he could be on his way out in the winter with the change in management.
The idea of a move to Celtic has been floating around in the Danish media. Of course, the Hoops signed Kasper Schmeichel in the summer.
Paul Parker does not seem opposed to the idea either. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:
"Eriksen to Celtic makes sense. Brendan Rodgers knows him from the Premier League, and he knows Schmeichel from the national team through many years. Language won't be an issue either, so it seems like an obvious move.
"I still believe Eriksen has the level for more than the Scottish league, but that's no criticism of Celtic. It's a big club, and Eriksen can cap off a fantastic career with a great experience at Celtic, where the entire city revolves around football.
"All eyes will be on him, as he'll be the biggest star in the league. He's one of the best players of the modern era in the Premier League, so he must also be ready for the considerable pressure that comes with that. But he's a very calm guy, so I actually think he'll handle that just fine. I hope so, too, because he's such a thoroughly likable and professional person. He deserves a dignified end to his career."
Celtic tipped to sign Manchester United midfielder in January
Eriksen has had a fantastic career so far and at 32 years of age, he should have a decent bit of football left in the tank. Thus, he could certainly do a job for Celtic and would immediately become the biggest name in the Scottish game if he made the move to Glasgow.
In recent years, we have seen Joe Hart and Aaron Mooy retire from the game after stints at Celtic. There is a very decent chance that we will see a similar story unfold with Schmeichel. Could someone like Eriksen do the same?
Time shall tell. While the Eriksen to Celtic rumours are starting to build up a decent bit of momentum, everybody who has followed the Hoops for any significant length of time knows that pulling off such a move is pretty unlikely. It is not impossible though.
That being said, do Celtic even need someone like Eriksen at this point in time? Their midfield is stacked already.
