It would be an understatement to say that the Celtic board are under pressure at the moment. The fans seem to be looking for answers after what was an extremely disappointing summer transfer window in which they did not even come close to meeting minimum expectations. On the contrary, they somehow managed to further weaken Brendan Rodgers' squad.

Of course, the coach and the players deserve their fair share of criticism. That being said, the club have not done enough to address clear areas of need. Nicolas Kuhn left in early July for a €19 million fee but a replacement was not brought in before Celtic had failed to qualify for the Champions League. Not only has Kyogo never been replaced but the Hoops also sanctioned Adam Idah's exit on deadline day without a replacement in place.

It is not hard to understand why the fans are unhappy with the situation. They should be. And it remains to be seen if the board will try and sign some big-name free agents, because that is all they can do for the next four months until the winter transfer window opens.

The Scotsman recently put out a list of 15 free agents that Celtic, Rangers and their rivals could still sign. One of the names on that list was that of Christian Eriksen.

Having made 310 appearances, scored 55 goals and assisted 81 times, Eriksen can be considered a Premier League legend. He turned out for clubs like Manchester United, Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur. Outside of England, he has played for the likes of Inter Milan and Ajax. The midfielder has also played 144 times for Denmark, scoring on 46 occasions.

All things considered, Celtic do not have a player of that pedigree. And even at 33 years of age, he can make a significant impact in midfield, just like Aaron Mooy did a few years back.

Of course, many might feel that midfield is one area where Celtic do not need to strengthen. But is that really the case? When was the last time the Celtic midfield dominated in a Glasgow Derby or a big European game?
