Celtic need to sign a centre-back this winter. Cameron Carter-Vickers has picked up a serious injury and is out for the rest of the season. He might also miss out on the World Cup. The Hoops do have a couple of quality options at the back in the form of Liam Scales and Auston Trusty, but they need some depth there, especially as the latter has had his fitness issues already.
Celtic have been linked with a few names lately. But they might have the opportunity to sign a quality centre-back for free in January.
Wilfried Nancy is viewed as the frontrunner for the vacant Celtic job. And if the Columbus Crew manager does end up getting it then one would expect him to try and sign some talent from the MLS in January as he seeks to rebuild what is a weakened and thin squad.
Centre-back is one position he should look to bring in reinforcements. 67 Hail Hail have suggested Justin Haak of New York City FC as a replacement for Carter-Vickers.
Celtic tipped to sign centre-back in January after brilliant season
Viewed as a defensive midfielder, Haak played most of his football as a centre-back last season. And many feel that it was a career year for him. As Tom Bogert wrote:
"Justin Haak is a name to watch this winter.
The NYCFC defender is out of contract after a career-year as a ball-playing CB. Will be a ton of interest in MLS free agency but also Championship teams are among those interested for January move"
So, it might be worth Celtic taking a look at him as a centre-back option. He is out of contract at New York City FC. It is believed that the club are interested in agreeing an extension, but if the Hoops come calling, it might be an attractive proposition for the American.
Of course, Celtic already have a couple of American centre-backs right now in the form of Carter-Vickers and Trusty. Could they add a third name to that list? We shall find out. This is an interesting suggestion though.
