Celtic announced the signing of one striker today, bringing in Callum Osmand after a standout season at the youth level for Fulham. Is this the end of their search to add to their forward ranks? Or will the Hoops bring in a more experienced player in the near future? We will find out soon. Amid all this, they have been tipped to sign an England international for free.
Celtic have two pretty good options at striker right now. Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah combined for 53 goals last season. But even then, it does feel like there is a bit missing in that area of the pitch.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to become a free agent this summer, bringing an end to his time at Everton. And the England international has been suggested as a potential target for the Hoops.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Jeff Stelling said on talkSPORT breakfast:
"It's an absolute no-brainer. A no-brainer.
"Getting him on a free transfer, we know he can play.
"If they oculd keep him fit, I think it'd be a good move for him.
"He'd score goals there, regain his conference and wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of years time he'd be back in the Premier League."
Celtic tipped to sign 28-year-old England international for free
At the peak of his powers, Calvert-Lewin was scoring a ton of goals in the Premier League and would certainly be a great addition for Celtic. But unfortunately, it has been a while since we have seen him play at that level.
He has not scored much over the last few seasons and has struggled with fitness issues as well. So, any move on the part of Celtic would come with a ton of risk, His scoring goals for the Hoops might not be the foregone conclusion that some appear to view it as.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the striker as well as Celtic. It is more than likely that any such move will not happen this summer. But then again, never say never in football. Especially because he is available as a free agent and the Hoops will surely have an eye on that market.
