Could Celtic look to strengthen their midfield this summer? That is one area that has not gotten a ton of attention in recent weeks. Earlier in the year, the club were being linked with one midfielder after another but those rumours have faded away over time. Right now, strikers, wingers and left-backs seem to be doing the rounds of the transfer rumour mill.
The Celtic midfield might need some attention though. In games against the Rangers, they have struggled to control the middle of the park.
That is one of the main reasons why they are winless in three games against the Rangers. It is exactly what had happened during the 20/21 campaign as well. So, something needs to change and quickly.
Interestingly, a promising name has been linked with the Parkhead club, on the back of captaining Krasnodar to the Russian Premier League. As reported by Mezzala Football & Scout, Eduard Spertsyan is on the radar of FC Porto, Leeds United and Celtic
Celtic tipped to sign 24-year-old Armenian superstar
Those with a keen memory will remember that Celtic were linked with a move for Spertsyan last summer as well. The Armenian midfielder has only gotten better since then.
Not only was he Krasnodar's captain for their league-winning captain, but played a key role with his performances as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in 28 Russian Premier League appearances.
At an individual level, Spertsyan is highly regarded. In 2022, he was named the Armenian Footballer of the Year. He has been the Russian Premier League's Midfielder of the Season twice already as well. Overall, in 143 appearances for Krasnodar, he has scored 44 goals and provided 32 assists.
So, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in signing Spertsyan. He looks like the type of player who can come in and make an immediate impact, which is what the Hoops need if they want to progress in the Champions League and maintain their gap over the Rangers domestically. He has one more year left on his contract with Krasnodar, which might make this the perfect opportunity to try and bring him to Parkhead.
