When the Rangers made a poor appointment in the form of Russell Martin, the club's hierarchy was responsible enough to acknowledge their mistake and sack him when it became an untenable situation. Most feel that Wilfried Nancy is in a similar situation at Celtic, having lost six of his eight games as the club's manager, with the latest being the Glasgow Derby at home.

Then again, it would not come as a surprise if Nancy remains in the job, despite his poor results since taking charge of Celtic. It is very clear that the board are not keen to admit that they got the appointment wrong.

It is hard to see the logic behind allowing this to drag on though. It could end Celtic's entire season, if it has not already.

Sooner or later, the club will have to sack Nancy. It is pretty clear that things are not improving. And they are only making it more difficult on themselves by continuing with him for longer than they need to. Many fans even feel that there are people on the board who are more concerned about being proven right than worrying about the best for Celtic.

The fact that Celtic have not announced Nancy's sacking already, and the manager seemed confident about his position in the post-match interview, does suggest that he will be continuing in the job despite looking completely out of his depth. But speculation is already growing about possible candidates to replace him.

Shaun Maloney has emerged as the favourite to become the next Celtic manager. He, alongwith Martin O'Neill, had guided the Hoops to seven wins in their eight games in interim charge of the side.

That is not the kind of appointment that will impress the fans. But it would certainly be better than what we are getting from Nancy.
