So far, there is no way to predict who Celtic's next permanent manager will be. It has only been a week since Brendan Rodgers handed in his resignation. But it definitely feels longer than that, considering how much has happened between now and then. Dermot Desmond released his own statement, brought back Martin O'Neill as interim manager, and the Hoops have won both games under him as well, including a Glasgow Derby against the Rangers at Hampden Park.
On the other hand, it looks like one manager after another has dropped out of the race to be the next Celtic manager. Ange Postecoglou is believed to be seeking some time away from the game. Craig Bellamy and Kieran McKenna do not appear to be keen to leave their current roles. And Mark van Bommel has turned down an approach as well.
So, the options have decreased for Celtic. Suggestions that Martin O'Neill could be handed the job until the end of the season are gathering some momentum as well.
On paper, it might not be a terrible idea either, if the results keep coming. At 73 years of age, O'Neill is not the long-term solution. But he has steadied the ship for sure, showing the qualities that made him a club legend in the first place. On the other hand, a lot more managerial options will be available next summer than currently.
Celtic tipped to appoint world-class manager out of nowhere
People continue to throw out names for the permanent Celtic job though. And Charlie Mulgrew has come out with arguably the most unrealistic one so far. As reported by the Daily Record, he said on the latest edition of The Warm-Up show:
"I would go all out and get Jurgen Klopp in the door."
When Kris Boyd and Steven Naismith rolled their eyes at the suggestion, as most of you will be while reading about it in this article, Mulgrew further explained himself:
"Why not? £7million a year. Give him it. Jurgen Klopp in the door. What's your argument against it? I know it's unrealistic, right. But could Dermot Desmond go, 'Do you know what? We're going to bounce back after Rodgers here and we're going to go big."
Now, let's be honest, there is little to no chance that Klopp will join Celtic. If he wants to make a return to management, there won't be a lack of suitors. And if money were the motivating factor, he could make a lot more in other leagues.
The only way Klopp could end up in the Celtic job is if he wanted it badly for some personal connection. And we are uncertain that any such link exists.
