Celtic have submitted a bid for another Eredivisie star as they race the UEFA transfer deadline to wrap up their business. The Bhoys have until 11pm tonight, Wednesday night, to submit their UEFA squad, so any signings made after that point will not be able to play in Europe until the knockout phase.
Logically, Celtic will want to wrap up their business before tonight's deadline, even if they have until 5pm on Thursday to wrap up all of their business, before the Scottish deadline.
Ahead of tonight's deadline, Celtic are working to land a new right-back to add further depth due to Alistair Johnston being out until at least October due to injury.
Colby Donovan has been doing well in Johnston's absence, and Anthony Ralston is also an option, but it seems as though O'Neill wants another.
According to FR12, Celtic have submitted a bid for Feyenoord star Jordan Lotomba, who is in the final year of his contract with the Dutch club. The deal is one the Bhoys are expecting to wrap up, with progress being made in talks.
The 27-year-old is valued at €3.5million by Transfermarkt, and given his contract situation, it's likely it will be an affordable deal for the Hoops, who have been busy ahead of the deadline.
Lotomba is an eight-time Swiss international, and he has won the Swiss top flight three times, having previously played for Young Boys.. The full-back has plenty of Champions League experience from his time in Switzerland.
A penny for Ralston's thoughts
Celtic's pursuit of Lotomba puts question marks over the future of Ralston, who may suddenly feel as though he is better off moving on, even if only on loan, ahead of the deadline.
Ralston was third-choice behind Johnston and Donovan, and if Johnston is out and Lotomba is coming in, he would remain third-choice, even at a time when he will have been expecting more game time,
And let's not forget Johnston is only out for a couple of months, so Ralston is on track to be fourth choice by the end of the year, with Donovan playing well ahead of him.
That's not going to make the 27-year-old a happy man, and few could blame him if he moved to request an exit, staring down the barrel of a season with limited minutes.
Ralston played for Scotland at the World Cup this summer, so it's a surprising twist, but it's also not out of the question that he jumps ahead of Donovan with improved form.
