Celtic extended their lead at the top to 16 points with their win over Aberdeen. Now, Barry Ferguson will take charge of the Rangers for the first time, when they take on Kilmarnock away at Rugby Park. He is only the interim manager though and a long-term appointment is expected to be made in the summer.
Steven Gerrard is widely viewed as the favourite to get the role. A lot of Celtic fans will like for that to happen as well.
Gerrard won the league the first time around with the Rangers. And while he won only one trophy in over three seasons in charge at Ibrox, stopping 10IAR is what he is remembered for.
Gerrard returning to Ibrox will give Celtic a chance to rewrite that story a little bit. But is the Liverpool legend open to the idea himself?
Celtic: Steven Gerrard's stance on Rangers return
Graeme Souness' past comments threw the idea of Gerrard returning to Rangers into doubt. As reported by the Mirror, shortly after Aston Villa sacked him in 2022, the fellow ex-Liverpool captain said:
"I don't see him going to Glasgow Rangers. Would the supporters be happy with him going back? I'm not sure. They think he left them at a difficult time, I'm not sure."
Of course, quite a bit has changed since then. Gerrad has suffered another failure as a manager at Al-Ettifaq and finds himself without a job.
It is safe to say that his managerial career is going nowhere of note at the moment and a return to Rangers might be the perfect opportunity, in the eyes of many, to bring it back on track. Of course, succeeding against Celtic and Brendan Rodgers won't be easy, as he will know quite well from his first term.
But it is a risk that Gerrard might need to take. That being said, it is very possible that he might choose to move away from management as a whole and focus on a different aspect of football altogether. Let's see how it all plays out.
