One Celtic star is said to be close to an exit on a deal that will not net the Bhoys any transfer revenue. The summer transfer window has not officially opened yet, but it already feels as though it is in full swing, with agreed deals aplenty around Europe.

Celtic's incoming business is on pause until Martin O'Neill is confirmed as the new full-time boss, which should be any day now. But there could be an outgoing that is arranged in the very near future

Welsh set for Wales move

Celtic centre-back Stephen Welsh - who is not Welsh, by the way - is reportedly set for a move to Wales to join Championship side Swansea City.

According to the Daily Record and WalesOnline, only the formalities are still to be arranged after Welsh and Swansea came to an agreement over terms. It's claimed the 26-year-old will end his Celtic contract early bu coming to a mutual cancelation agreement.

The deal was intended to run until 2027 but will now conclude early to allow both parties to move on. Given Welsh has a move lined up, it's likely the deal will allow Celtic and Welsh to move on without any compensation being paid either way.

That would allow the Bhoys to save on wages, but they would be giving up the chance to earn a transfer fee, with Welsh then able to join Swansea City on a free transfer.

Welsh is a product of the Celtic academy, and he has made 43 league appearances for the club in all since 2019. Having struggled for game time, Welsh joined Motherwell on loan last season and enjoyed a regular spell of football there, making 27 league appearances in all.

It is there that he appears to have caught the eye of Swansea, earning a move to Wales. The Swans had a disappointing season on the whole last term.

While they did rally up the table late on, finishing 11th, they were never in play-off contention despite having the league's top scorer in Jan Vipotnik. But current boss Vitor Matos was only appointed in the November, so he hasn't yet had the opportunity to have a full pre-season and season in charge.

He will be expected to get Swansea into playoff contention this coming season, and it looks as though Welsh will now be part of that mission as he prepares for his first experience of English league football.
