Celtic star Kieran Tierney turned his World Cup around in what will likely be his and his team's final game in North America. The Celtic left-back struggled in his second game, a defeat to Morocco, though he was playing out of position.

Tierney came off late in the Morocco game with cramp, and Ben Gannon-Doak came on and dazzled, leading to criticism of Tierney and his place in the team.

Tierney did not start the third and final group game against Brazil, but he came on at half-time for Andy Robertson, who was forced off with an ankle injury. Playing in his best position, the Celtic full-back was excellent, and arguably the best Scotland player on the pitch.

Scotland were sorely missing attacking edge, and Tierney provided it, delivering a number of good balls into the box while still taking care of things defensively.

And it's not just us who noticed.

Tierney gets strong review

Tierney scored a seven in the TNT Sports player ratings, which was the best of the Scotland players.

The report read: "On for Robertson at half-time, Tierney made a really positive impact. He linked up well with McGinn and set up McTominay for a good chance early in the second half with a brilliant cross into the box.

"A fizzed ball into the box gave McTominay another chance in the 64th minute, but the Napoli midfielder couldn’t get enough power on his header. Again, hindsight, but Tierney on from the start might have made a difference."

Interestingly, after the Morocco game, many were saying Gannon-Doak should have started and Tierney shouldn't have, so it's an impressive response that he comes out of this game with people saying he should have started.

Scotland in big trouble

Scotland look to be heading home after the Brazil defeat, which was damaging to their goal difference. Steve Clarke's men need a miracle to pass through as one of the eight best third-place teams, already seventh on the list with nine groups still to play their final games.

A minus three goal difference with three points is very unlikely to get Scotland through, and South Africa winning later on Wednesday night did them no favours, with South Korea heading through as third in that group.

Brazil were very good on Wednesday night, but Scotland will be disappointed to have made so many clear defensive errors to hand Brazil two of their three goals.
