Celtic are expected to sign a winger in the near future. Luis Palma has barely featured in recent times and should probably look to change clubs. The Honduran winger is clearly not in Brendan Rodgers' plans but there is rumoured to be interest from the MLS in his signature. If he did leave, that would open up a spot in the squad.
There should always be competition for places at a club like Celtic. Unfortunately, that is not the case when it comes to the flanks right now.
Admittedly, Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda have been two of Celtic's best players this season and the lack of competition has not had a negative impact on their performances. But at the very least, the club need to have a decent cover option.
One player who has been struggling in the Premier League lately is Maxwel Cornet. He had been a revelation at Burnley and excellent at Lyon before that but since joining West Ham United, things have not really gone the Ivory Coast international's way.
Celtic should sign struggling Premier League winger
After struggling at West Ham United, Cornet was sent out on loan to Southampton in the summer. The hope was that he would be able to bring his career back on track there.
That has been far from the case though. Cornet has made just two appearances in the Premier League so far this season. And it would be no surprise if his loan stint with Southampton was terminated in January.
So, why would Celtic sign a winger who has been struggling to get game time lately? Well, because it might be worth the risk. Cornet has proven himself in the past. For years with Lyon and in the Premier League while at Burnley. And at 28 years of age, he should have plenty of football left in the tank. In the right team, he could still be an asset.
