Coming out of the Scottish League Cup win, it would be safe to say that if there is one area Celtic fans want to see the club strengthen this January, it is left-back. Greg Taylor found the back of the net against the Rangers at the weekend but his overall performance was not good by any stretch of the imagination.
Celtic have Alex Valle as the backup to Taylor. However, he is only on a season-long loan deal from FC Barcelona and might not be the long-term solution.
Also, it does not look like the club are planning to give Alexandro Bernabei a second chance despite his brilliant loan spell at SC Internacional. So, Celtic might find themselves looking to sign a left-back very soon.
Who could be the ideal option for Celtic in this regard? Well, Junior Firpo of Leeds United might be someone worth keeping an eye on as his contract at Elland Road is believed to be running out next summer.
Celtic could sign Leeds United left-back for bargain fee
Firpo has been a key player for Leeds United in recent times. He joined the club back in 2021. Before that, he was at FC Barcelona. He had a solid spell at Real Betis as well.
Firpo is 28 years of age and very much in his prime. So, if Celtic are looking to make further progress in Europe, he might be the type of player that they need to sign rather than making another project signing.
Of course, he is not the only left-back that they have been linked with. Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic Park might be a possibility as well as his time at Arsenal seems to be as good as over as he is not a part of Mikel Arteta's plans anymore. His long injury history makes a move complicated though.
