After Kyogo Furuhashi left in January to join Rennes, it had looked like Celtic had tried to bring in a replacement for him in the winter transfer window itself. Unfortunately, they were not successful despite being linked with a long list of names. The expectation is that the Hoops will rectify that mistake this summer and add to their centre-forward options.
They have seemingly dropped their interest in Mathias Kvistgaarden already, with him being linked with teams from England, Italy and Germany. On the other hand, there has been very little talk about David Strelec lately.
One of their January targets that could be available this summer is Kelechi Iheanacho. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Middlesbrough and it is expected that Sevilla will try to find him a new home this summer.
In fact, as reported by the Daily Record, Sevilla’s sporting director Victor Orta has opened the door to an exit again. He branded the addition of Iheanacho 12 months ago a "mistake".
Celtic handed chance to sign Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City favourite
Rodgers knows how to get the best out of Iheanacho though. The two worked together during their time at Leicester City and that was the most successful period of the Nigerian striker's career. So, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in a reunion.
It is also worth mentioning that Iheanacho is still just 28 years old. So, if he is able to revive his career at Parkhead, Celtic might have him for his prime years on the pitch.
It remains to be seen if Celtic make a move for him this summer or not. There had been suggestions that the club had opened talks to sign Iheanacho in the summer but ultimately, they did not lead anywhere.
