Celtic were not able to hold on to their 1-0 lead against Bayern Munich in the dying seconds of the second leg away at the Allianz Arena. In a game like this, perhaps the Hoops could have done with a defensive midfielder who could prove some added solidity in the middle of the park when the German side were looking for a breakthrough.

Defensive midfield is an area where Celtic have struggled to strengthen in recent years. The likes of Ismaila Soro, Oliver Abildgaard and Tomoki Iwata tried and failed to make the position their own.

Instead, Celtic have often played with a fluid three-man midfield. That works for them, especially in domestic games when they do not need to sit deep and are pretty much always on the front foot.

That being said, Celtic should at least have an option in defensive midfield, especially if they are hoping that this tie against Bayern Munich does not turn out to be a one-off. Could a Manchester City midfielder be a potential option?

Maximo Perrone is currently out on loan at Serie A side Como FC. In the past, he has also spent a temporary stint in La Liga with Las Palmas.

So, Perrone has a decent bit of experience under the belt. That being said, it is hard to see him be a regular feature in Manchester City's first-team anytime soon.

It is very possible that he will be available on loan, or perhaps even a permanent deal, in the summer. And if that does turn out to be the case, Celtic should definitely consider making a move.

Perrone is 22 years of age with Serie A and La Liga experience. He has represented Argentina at youth international levels. And someone like him could be a decent addition for Celtic, whether it be on a short or long-term basis.
