Celtic may yet return to the table to sign a loanee who has now returned to his parent club. Martin O'Neill has now been confirmed as the permanent boss after a few weeks of speculation surrounding future on the back of winning the double.
It has been a pretty turbulent few weeks for Celtic, in truth, and the board didn't do themselves many favours with the fans, but the hope is that, with O'Neill appointment, all eyes will turn to the new season - not counting Scotland's World Cup campaign, of course.
O'Neill will immediately be getting to work on recruitment, well aware of the improvements needed within his side, and there is one familiar deal that may yet get done.
Saracchi still an option
Marcelo Saracchi came on in loan from Boca Juniors and went on to make 19 league appearances, and there may well have been more had he not had some injury issues. A hamstring issue kept the uruguayan out for a chunk of the season.
But with Kieran Tierney having a colourful injury history himself, Celtic know they might need good cover at left-back, as well as good competition if they want to have a successful season domestically and abroad.
It's for that reason the Bhoys are not yet ruling out a permanent move for Saracchi, according to the Daily Record. They say Celtic are aware that Bocas Juniors would be willing to sell the defender this summer, and that a deal can be done for £2million,
Celtic fans took to Saracchi in the season just gone, appreciating his hard and fast style of play. O'Neill liked him, too, describing Saracchi as a 'special character' during the title celebrations.
Saracchi would be a wise move
Celtic have a lot to do this summer. The Bhoys need to upgrade a number of positions while also likely having to replace some big name players, given there are two or three players who are likely to be offered big moves, potentially including Arne Engels.
The left-back position clearly needs adding to, and the Bhoys know whet they are getting with Saracchi. O'Neill knows he fits into the dressing room and can contribute at a steady rate. He also knows he is a player who will keep his head down even when Tierney is starting ahead of him.
To be able to add a player who ticks those boxes for £2million and move on to more expensive targets elsewhere on the pitch would be a win.
