Over the past few weeks, most of the talk surrounding Celtic has been about potential new signings. They have been linked with a variety of players from all across Europe, and all those who are currently playing in the Scottish Premiership. That being said, only two signings have been successfully made so far, with merely days left in the winter window. Tomas Cvancara has been brought in on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach. Julian Araujo has arrived from Bournemouth, also temporarily.
There are only a few days left in the winter transfer window. Let's see if the club are able to pull off a few deals between now and then. They certainly need to, if they want to give Martin O'Neill a genuine chance of winning this title race.
Anyways, coming back to other matters at hand. It is also important for Celtic to keep some of their established players. One of them is James Forrest, whose current deal expires soon.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are set to hold face-to-face Forrest talks in order to strike an agreement. The Glasgow giants intend to sit down and discuss a new deal with the winter, provided that he is still content with his role at Parkhead. But they plan to leave the future in his own hands ahead of his contract expiring in the summer.
Celtic set to hold face-to-face talks to agree deal
Ideally, I would like to see Forrest finish his career at Celtic Park. One-club players are rare in football these days. Why make a change at this point?
Forrest will be 35 years of age in the summer. It is hard to imagine that the winger has too many years left in the tank. He has a role off the bench at Celtic, and will probably do for the rest of his career if he wants it. Even if he joins a different club, it is unlikely that he will be a starter.
Forrest has made more than 550 appearances for Celtic and will probably finish as the most decorated player in the club's history. Let's hope that he does not decide on a move away before that.
