Celtic are now said to have bid twice for a goalkeeper, but they are no closer to striking a deal. The Bhoys are need of a new stopper this summer following Kasper Schmeichel's retirement.
The Hoops do have Viljami Sinisialo on their books, and he filled in during Schmaichel's injury issues last season, but Martin O'Neill is going to want a better quality starter next season, and work is ongoing to land one.
Celtic working on goalkeeper deal
No deal has been easy to strike for Celtic so far this summer, with only one new signing made, and the bid to sign a new keeper is going no differently. According to Greek journalist George Tsarouchas, Celtic and Sevilla are pushing for a deal to sign Las Palmas goalkeeper Dinko Horkas, but they are not having much luck.
According to the report, Las Palmas have turned down offers from both teams, with Celtic having now bid twice and getting the same result. It's reported Las Palmas want between €7m and €8m, which is between £5.95million and £6.7million.
Horkas has been linked with Celtic for much of the summer. The 27-year-old Croatian is under contract until 2028, so Celtic could play the long game and wait for a discounted deal next summer, but that won't help them find a starter this summer, unless they snap up another veteran goalkeeper elsewhere.
Horkas was key for Las Palmas last season, helping them to the La Liga 2 playoffs, where they ultimately lost in the semi-finals.
O'Neill still confident on transfers
Celtic have been sluggish with their recruitment again this summer, failing to be proactive despite a clear need to get on top of their transfer business. The Bhoys already had a number of needs coming into this summer, and departures will expose the squad further.
Still, O'Neill, who demanded significant transfer business before taking the job, is confident deals will be done. He told reporters after his side's heavy pre-season defeat to Sporting CP: "We’re trying to come to some sort of agreement with Iheanacho but we are definitely making moves.
“I am in constant touch with Michael (Nicholson). Shin Yamada has gone on loan and Michael is in the background working away. I don’t know about numbers but I am definitely optimistic we will get players in.
“I think to balance things up we’d have to let a few players go but I’m hoping to be in a position to do that with others coming in. I’ve very hopeful (about Iheanacho).”
