It is safe to say that we have seen a long list of names being linked with the vacant Celtic job over the past few days. Brendan Rodgers shocked the footballing world by resigning from his post, something that not many would have expected even though the Hoops had fallen eight points behind Hearts in the title race.
Celtic have brought back Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney, and put them in interim charge of the team until a long-term permanent manager is found. But that search is not going to be easy.
A number of candidates, who were believed to be leading the race at one point, are now said to be out of it completely. On the other hand, new names are cropping up pretty much every day.
Some will leave the fans impressed. Others will not. As reported by Celtsmedia, rumours are that Lee Carsley has been interviewed for the Celtic job.
Celtic have reportedly interviewed English manager
Now, there is no doubt that Carsley has enjoyed a lot of success managing the youth sides of England. He was even the interim national team manager not too long ago. Born and raised in Birmingham, he represented Ireland during his playing days.
That being said, he does not have the experience required as a manager at the top level to be considered for the Celtic job. This is a unique role where the expectation is to win pretty much every game that you take part in. Not everybody can thrive under that pressure, as we have seen with all the managerial mistakes that the Rangers have made in recent years.
Celtic cannot afford to get caught up in that same cycle. They need to bring in someone who is used to winning on a consistent basis. Carsley does not seem to be that man. The likes of Nicky Hayen and Kjetil Knutsen might be better fits.
