Celtic are expected to have a busy remainder of the summer transfer window. Despite bringing back Kieran Tierney, one could argue that the Hoops are weaker now than they were last season. We have seen key players like Nicolas Kuhn and Greg Taylor leave, alongside plenty of quality depth as well, leaving Brendan Rodgers lacking options in several areas across the pitch.

So, one would imagine that the Hoops are putting plans in place to make more signings this summer. And there is a very positive update in that regard.

It looks like Celtic are planning to make a double signing to strengthen the spine of the team. They are also accelerating moves to make it happen as soon as possible.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are accelerating moves to bring in a central midfielder and a centre-back this summer. The Scottish champions are keen to improve the spine of their team and are working on deals.

It is safe to say that Celtic will need to strengthen in several positions if they want to make progress next season. Central midfield and centre-back are definitely two such positions.

For a while, it looks like the club want to bring in a physical defensive midfielder who can help them control games. That is a profile that they have been missing for quite a few years now.

On the other hand, the club have tried to solve their issue at centre-back for the past two seasons. But they have not been able to find the answer so far.

They need to bring in someone who can be the right partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers. Auston Trusty put in a great performance recently but one cannot read too much into pre-season displays, that is for sure.
