Kyogo Furuhashi had the ball in the back of the net three times against YB but all of those goals were ruled out. And unfortunately, that looks set to be his last appearance in a Celtic shirt. That will be sad news for many fans. The Japanese striker has endeared himself to the supporters since arriving in the summer of 2021.
In his first couple of seasons at Celtic, Kyogo was unstoppable. He scored 20 goals in his first one despite having to deal with injuries and managed a remarkable 34 in the following campaign.
Kyogo has failed to reach those heights again since Ange Postecoglou was replaced by Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager. He is still the best option that the Hoops have got though and it is surprising that the club seem ready to green light an exit in the middle of the campaign.
As reported by La Parisien, an agreement has been reached between Rennes and Celtic for a transfer fee that should amount to €12 million. Kyogo should very quickly come to strengthen the team coached by Jorge Sampaoli.
Celtic reach agreement over transfer fee for Kyogo
If the speculation is accurate and Kyogo does indeed leave, it will be a risky move on the part of Celtic. They might have secured qualification to the knockout round of the Champions League but there is a lot of work left to be done domestically.
Celtic might have a comfortable lead in the league but we have seen them drop a lot of points lately. Letting go of a proven game-winner like Kyogo at this point might not be the best idea.
Also, it will be interesting to see how they plan to replace Kyogo. Will they sign a winger and use Daizen Maeda as a striker? After all, that was the role he was playing for Yokohama F. Marinos before arriving at Celtic. Or will the Hoops sign another centre forward before the winter transfer window closes? Mathias Kvistgaarden is someone they have been linked with recently.
