Celtic are expected to bring in at least a few fresh faces this month. But for the time being, it looks like they are focused on moving on players who are not getting much game time at the moment. Stephen Welsh has already departed the club on a loan basis, moving to Belgium in order to line up for KV Mechelen. And quite a few more seem to be on their way out.
Odin Thiago Holm is believed to be on the verge of an exit as well. He is not the only one either. Luis Palma also appears to be closing on a Parkhead departure, on an initial loan deal.
As reported by Estadio Deportivo, Rayo Vallecano and Celtic have already closed the agreement for the loan deal to sign Palma, pending the final details of the operation. The Honduran winger is expected to land in Madrid next week to sign.
The agreement is for a loan with an option to buy, valued at around €2.5 million. The final details of the operation are being finalised.
Celtic reach agreement over long-awaited January move
Palma arrived at Celtic in the summer of 2023 from Aris FC. And early on during his run at Parkhead, it appeared that he was going to be one of the central figures for the club.
Palma was providing goals and assists on a consistent basis. On top of that, he was also performing in big games, including in the Champions League.
But as the season progressed, Palma's early form began to fade away. By the end of the campaign, he had lost his place in the starting XI and never won it back after that. This season, he has barely gotten any game time and as a a result, it is the right step for him to leave.
