Brendan Rodgers is pretty used to seeing Rangers managers depart. Plenty of have come and gone at Ibrox over the Northern Irishman's two stints in the Celtic hot seat. And it looks like the name of Philippe Clement is going to be added to that list soon. The Belgian's future has been up in the air for quite some time despite the fact that he was handed a long-term contract extension earlier in the season.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, Clement has failed to get a tune out of this team. They look set to finish trophyless and the performances are not getting any better.
One would say that their 2-0 defeat at home against St Mirren this weekend was their worst performance of the season. But then, we did see them lose at Ibrox against Championship side, Queen's Park, just earlier this month.
All things considered, Clement is struggling as Rangers boss while a treble is very much on the cards for Celtic. Under these circumstances, there is only one ending to the story that makes sense. One that we have seen played out a few times already.
Celtic: Rangers make Philippe Clement sacking decision
As reported by the Daily Record, Clement is on the brink of being sacked. The details over a potential exit are ongoing over the package that the Rangers manager will receive. That figure is believed to be more than the £1.2 million that had been initially reported.
Thus, it looks like it is only a matter of time before Clement is shown the exit door by the Rangers. That should not come as a real surprise to anybody.
Who will end up replacing him? That remains to be seen. Will be it someone like Steven Gerrard? Or an interim manager until the end of the season?
