Celtic are believed to be looking to strengthen their defence this summer. They have been linked with quite a few centre-backs as the likes of Auston Trusty, Liam Scales and others have failed to establish themselves as the partner to Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of defence. Most fans would like to see experience brought in. But it looks like the Hoops are trying to sign a highly-rated 17-year-old defender.
It looks like Celtic are moving forward with their interest as well. The Hoops have already made a failed offer to sign him.
As reported by Mozzart Sport (via Nogomania), Red Star Belgrade have rejected a €6 million bid from Celtic for Veljko Milosavljevic. The Hoops sent representatives in an attempt to negotiate a deal but the Serbian club were not impressed with the offer. He is also being monitored by two English clubs, although no formal bids have been submitted from the Premier League or Championship so far.
Celtic have been linked with a move for Milosavljevic going back to earlier this year. It remains to be seen if they go back in with another bid after seeing their first offer turned down.
Celtic submit €6 million offer for Serbian defender
To be honest, it is interesting that Celtic made an offer of that magnitude for the defender. He is just 17 years of age and has limited experience, as one would expect. He has made 19 appearances for Red Star at the senior level and has represented Serbia at multiple youth international levels, going up to U21.
Earlier, there had been claims that Red Star could be looking for a figure double that offer, believed to be around €12 million or £10 million. Will the Hoops show that kind of trust in his potential?
Of course, there are believed to be plenty of other centre-backs on Celtic's radar as well. If they can't agree a deal with Red star, they might turn their attention elsewhere.
