Celtic need to sign a striker or two or three this summer. They have already brought in Callum Osmand, a standout for Fulham in youth football who was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season before his move to Parkhead. The Scottish champions are also believed to be on the verge of signing Shin Yamada of Kawasaki Frontale. But it might not end there.
Celtic are also believed to be interested in Giuseppe Ambrosino. He currently plays for Napoli and also for the Italian youth national teams.
Ambrosino has failed to break into first-team plans at Napoli. So, it is very possible that he could be looking to leave the Italian champions this summer.
Unfortunately for Celtic, they are not the only club looking to sign him this summer. In fact, the interest of an Italian team has now been pretty much confirmed in public in what will be a transfer blow to the Hoops' hopes of signing him.
Celtic handed public Giuseppe Ambrosino transfer blow
As reported by AreaNapoli, Simone Giacchetta, former Napoli defender in the late 1980s, now Sporting Director of Cremonese, made some statements to the microphones of 'Marte Sport Live' in which he said:
"Could Giuseppe Ambrosino be a good addition to our squad? We're interested in many young players, and Ambrosino certainly deserves close attention. While he's not yet a top goalscorer, he's shown some interesting qualities."
So, it looks like Cremonese are pretty interested in making a move for Ambrosino, considering that Giacchetta has mentioned his name in public. One would imagine that they will try to sign him in the near future.
As for Celtic, there have been suggestions that they have made an enquiry for Ambrosino already. The Hoops seem to be interested in bringing in the Italian striker on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy included.
One positive for Celtic is that there have been suggestions that Ambrosino is keen on a move to Parkhead. If those rumours are accurate, then it would hand the Hoops an advantage in the race for his signature.
