It has been a long time since Celtic shelled out a fee believed to be in the region of £4.5 million to sign Scott Brown from Hibernian. It would be safe to say that the midfielder delivered on the expectations and then some, going on to become one of the most successful players and captains in the club's history. That remains the record for a transfer between two Scottish clubs.
Celtic might be looking to break that record in January though. Another Scottish midfielder seems to have caught their eye.
As reported by The Fitbaw Gospel, Celtic preparing a £5.3 million January bid for Lennon Miller. Including add-ons that could take it over £6.5 million depending on appearances, Champions League appearances and title wins, as well as a healthy sell-on fee. The Hoops will also offer him back to Motherwell on a 6-month loan deal.
Celtic appear to be keen to get a deal done in January. That is because clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle United might try to sign Miller in the summer.
Celtic preparing record January bid for midfielder
Miller, still 18 years of age, has established himself as a regular in the middle of the park for Motherwell. Not just that, he is contributing with both goals and assists as well.
So far this season, Miller has 7 goal contributions. He put in a brilliant performance against Celtic as well, even though Motherwell lost on the day. And lately, he has been hailed as the best talent in Scottish football right now.
So, it is not hard to understand why Celtic might be keen to sign Miller as soon as possible. Just look at how well some Scottish players have done after leaving the Premiership and joining clubs in one of the top five leagues in Europe.
