Celtic already have a whole host of injuries to deal with. Players like Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Callum Osmand are out for the foreseeable future, having undergone surgeries. It is unclear when Jota will be back, either, having been on the sidelines after suffering an injury towards the end of last season. There are several short-term absentees as well.

The Celtic squad lacked depth to begin with. And with these injury problems on top, they find themselves in an even worse situation.

It is unclear who the manager of the club will be by the time this international break comes to an end. Whether that is Martin O'Neill or somebody else, he has just been handed another problem to worry about.

As reported by The Herald, Colby Donovan was stretchered off in the game against Gibraltar. Under-21s boss Scor Gemmill appears to be hoping that it was a precautionary move after his ankle injury. He said:

"I don't know the full extent of it. I just know he was taken to the hospital because the ambulance was here.

"So it's a case of wait and see, but he's in good spirits and hopefully it was just precautionary.

"It's my understanding the injury was around his ankle area."

Those comments do give Celtic fans some hope. That being said, how often are players stretchered off and then taken to the hospital just as a precautionary measure? We wouldn't imagine that that is a common occurrence. There had to have been some worries about the extent of Donovan's situation.

Donovan could have been set for a run in the team as a starter. Johnston is out for the foreseeable future after suffering another injury while Anthony Ralston has never really been the most impressive of performers, and is a squad option at best.

We did see Jahmai Simpson-Pusey start at right-back in the previous game and Celtic did keep a clean sheet as well. So, that might be a solution worth considering.

If the issue is anything long-term, perhaps Celtic should consider signing a right-back in the January window. So, until we learn the extent of the problem, it is hard to come up with the exact solution.
