Scott Brown is enjoying a good season at Ayr United. His team are in contention for promotion and currently sit at third spot in the Championship table. And it looks like the Celtic legend had tried to convince one of his former teammates to join him at the second division club, but a move did not end up materialising.

The player we are talking about is James Forrest. The winger has enjoyed a return to the first-team fold under the management of Brendan Rodgers after he had lost his spot for a few years, largely due to constant fitness issues combined with new players arriving and moving ahead of him in the pecking order.

Forrest was impressive towards the end of last season and was instrumental in guiding Celtic to a Premiership and Scottish Cup double. The winger continues to be a part of Rodgers' plans, although mostly being used as an impact substitute.

If things had worked out a bit differently, Forrest might have ended up with Broony at Ayr United. As reported by the Daily Record, the Celtic winger said:

"Aye, he actually phoned me, I think he asked me last January, February if I'd go down! What was my answer? Just no yet! I don't even think he said I would get a game, he said I could compete for a place!"

It is not hard to understand why Brown might have been interested and thought pulling off the move was possible. Forrest was not playing much at that point in time before making his way back into the team in the second half of the campaign.

Forrest's decision to stay at Parkhead was most certainly the correct one. Not only has he gotten back into the team and is playing a decent bit of football but he was also handed a contract extension by the Hoops recently.

On the other hand, Brown is doing well as Ayr United manager. We can only wish him the best of luck and hope he achieves a ton of success this season and beyond that as well.
