Celtic fans will have been delighted to see Scotland qualify for their first World Cup since 1998. The moment was especially sweet because it was Kieran Tierney who scored the game-winner against Denmark on the night. Many would have enjoyed Ireland's success during this international break as well. But it was not all positive, that is for sure.
Earlier during the international break, Colby Donovan had to be stretchered off, although there are signs that the situation is not nearly as bad as first thought. On the other hand, Benjamin Nygren was left as an unused substitute in Sweden's recent game against Slovenia.
When you have Celtic's injury record, fans are always worried about picking up more. As one prominent fan account asked earlier in the day: "Benjamin Nygren injured?"
At the moment, the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston, Marcelo Saracchi, Callum Osmand and Kelechi Iheanacho are all out on the sidelines. The extent of Donovan's issue is not clear either. Naturally, many were wondering if the name of Nygren was set to be added to that list. Fortunately, it looks like that won't be the case.
Celtic player dropped by international boss raising injury fears
It looks like it had always been the plan to rest players on this occasion. Sweden national team boss, Graham Potter, said to Fotbollskanalen when asked about his selection decisions against Slovenia before the match:
"It's something we need to consider. At the same time, we're in a situation where we need to recover from the game against Switzerland and make sure everyone is okay physically. We have some decisions to make before the game. But we have time (until kick-off).
"This is something we will consider. The match in March is important."
Well, Celtic fans will be grateful to Potter for giving Nygren the day off. The last thing they need is for another player to pick up an injury while away on international duty.
Nygren has had an eventful start to life as a Celtic player, that is for sure. He has scored 6 goals and provided 5 assists in 20 appearances this season for the Scottish champions. One of their most effective players in the final third of the pitch.
The issue is, those numbers can be so much better. Nygren is incredible when it comes to finding the right positions. It is his finishing that lets him down though. If he can get that together, he could easily double his goal tally with the amount of chances he gets due to his smart movement and positioning.
