Social media is a major part of football these days, for good or for bad. That is not just the case for Celtic but everywhere around the world. On one hand, it means that the players are now closer to the fans than ever, at least virtually. But on the other hand, it has also given rise to a growth in one-sided opinions. It almost feels like you have to have an opinion about every player and then let it known to the world.
One bad game is supposed to be the end of the world. One goal makes you a star. And everything in between. It just feels like a balance is missing from these opinions. It is all slanted, to one side or another.
One player who has faced his fair share of criticism lately is Luis Palma. And the recent wave of it from his national team supporters led to him deactivating his Instagram.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Palma went live on TikTok and participated in challenges ahead of Honduras' tournament. But following a 6-0 loss to Canada, he was one of the players targeted by the fans and deactivated his Instagram account after receiving a wave of criticism.

Then, in an unexpected turn of events, it was Palma who scored a last-gasp winner for Honduras after coming off the bench against Curacao. In celebration, he cupped his ears, which has been viewed as a dig at the criticism he received from the fans.
There is no doubt that Palma is a talented player. Despite his struggles at club level, Celtic and elsewhere, he has come up good for Honduras more often than not at the international level. As things stand, they are now through to the next round of the Concacaf Gold Cup and will take on Panama.
Of course, Celtic will be hoping that Palma has a stellar tournament with Honduras. This will increase the chances of them receiving a suitable offer for the winger this summer.
Palma spent the second half of last season on loan at Olympiacos but did not make much of an impact and was not able to convince them to take up the buyout clause. Now, he is being linked with multiple other Greek clubs as well as other ones from across and beyond Europe. Let's see what the future holds.
