It would be an understatement to say that everything is going wrong at Ibrox right now. After their loss to Aberdeen in midweek, they find themselves 9 points behind Celtic heading into November. In fact, they are closer to 8th place right now than they are to the top. That is how bad of a start Philippe Clement's side have made to the campaign.

Naturally, there fans have called for a change to be made. There are already rumours about who the next Rangers manager could be. It is not that simple though.

The financial struggles that the Rangers have faced in recent years is not really a secret. They handed Clement a long-term extension just a few months back. So, one would imagine that if they decide to sack him now, they would have to hand him a hefty payout.

On the other hand, Clement has done the unthinkable recently. No, it is not falling 9 points behind Celtic, and Aberdeen, in October. It is mention the events of 2012 while being the Rangers' manager.

Celtic must be amused as Philippe Clement mentions 2012 to Rangers fans

As reported by the Glasgow Times, Clement said:

"It's not about me. It's about the club. It's about building a big rebuild that was necessary. Also, you've seen the numbers yesterday and why the rebuild was necessary for the club. Also, with cutting down the wages, making a younger squad because the squad was old. All these things, that was a decision made by everybody in the club and everybody sticks behind that because it was the only way to stay healthy as a club and to stay sustainable. I don't think that fans or any other people want to go back to the situation of 12 years ago."

First of all, 2012 is something that most Rangers fans want to forget about completely. So, not many would be happy with Clement's recent comments.

Secondly, one could argue that long-term is a myth in football. A manager is safe in his job as long as the results are coming.

Just look at how it turned out for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. Just a few weeks back, he sounded confident about his position as Manchester United manager and now, the club have already moved on and are set to appoint Ruben Amorim. That's how quickly things could change for Clement as well.
