There are a number of Celtic players who could be heading for the exit door in the upcoming January transfer window. In the majority of these cases, it is because they are not getting enough playing time at Parkhead. But in the case of one, he might be set to leave despite being in the form of his life at the moment.

We are talking about none other than Alexandro Bernabei. The Argentine left-back struggled to find his feet at Parkhead and had his fair share of hurdles off the field as well.

But he seems to have discovered his best after leaving Celtic on loan and returning to South America. He was the best left-back in the Brazilian league while at Internacional.

That had naturally raised hopes that Internacional would try to sign Bernabei on a permanent basis. They are believed to have a £7 million option to buy included in the deal. But it looks like they are not going to take that up. Yet, a move back to Brazil could still be on the cards for the Argentine.

As reported by The Celtic Way, Internacional have given up trying to raise that figure and have instead submitted another loan offer in the hope that the Hoops will accept. However, according to reports in Brazil, the Porto Alegre club are 'not optimistic' that the Scottish champions will agree to another temporary stint and they have resigned themselves to Bernabei not returning.

It is not all bad news for Celtic though as the left-back could be headed to another Brazilian club instead. Palmeiras are waiting for the deadline to pass before making their move for Bernabei and they would have no problem finding the funds to sign him.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Bernabei. Despite his great form, it does not seem to lie at Celtic though.
