Celtic are doing deals aplenty ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday, well aware that any new signings will need to be signed by Wednesday night at 11pm to ensure they can play in Europe during the league phase.
The Bhoys are signing Joel Van den Berg and Oliver Sorensen, while Sam Johnstone is on his way in, as is Chelsea youngster Shim Mhueka.
The Hoops have preached patience throughout the window, but there is no hiding the fact they have been left in a rush and ended up signing many players who were not likely towards the top of their shortlist. It feels as though there is now a rush to fill the squad, and that should not have been the case.
But Celtic are where they are, and their reluctance to pay for lead targets, especially after their failure to qualify for the Champions League has seen many targets go elsewhere.
Gineitis deal now looks unlucky
One player Celtic have been hot on all summer is Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis, and it's believed they have sent multiple offers.
Gvidas is a natural replacement for Arne Engels, who left for £22million, and Celtic have arguably failed to properly replace the Belgian up to now.
According to ToroGoal, Celtic made a fresh offer for Gineitis on Monday night but saw their approach rejected. The Hoops are said to have come up short with their offer for the 22-year-old. Other reports have claimed that Torino will want at least £8.5million for Gineitis.
Celtic should have the money, but they have been reluctant to spend big following the signings of Kasper Hogh and Haissem Hassan, especially after the ill-fated Champions League playoff.
With time running out, it looks as though Celtic might end up missing out on Gineitis, with Torino having already sold players this summer, so they can likely afford to hold out for a big value.
The Bhoys are making some cheaper signings, including leaning on loans, so they may feel as though they can get on without Gineitis. Whether they can remains to be seen, with Engels leaving big boots to fill.
Gianlucas Di Marzio says Celtic have been in negotiations over Gineitis through the night, with talks continuing, so a deal is not off the table yet.
Particularly with Europe in mind, Celtic would be wise to invest in a proper replacement for Engels, and it's clear they feel as though Gineitis is the man.
