Most of the talk in recent days has been about Celtic potentially signing a striker or two this winter. It is not hard to see why, considering how light they are in that area of the pitch. That being said, it is certainly not the only position where the Hoops need to strengthen in the ongoing transfer window. Another one is centre-back.
Celtic need to sign a centre-back after the long-term injury picked up by Cameron Carter-Vickers earlier. That has left them with two left-footed options as their starters in the form of Auston Trusty and Liam Scales. Neither is a standout though. The club have also brought back Stephen Welsh, who looked nice and tidy last night, but you can not read too much into a display against Auchinleck Talbot.
Anyways, it looks like Celtic are open to the prospect of signing another centre-back this January. And a very interesting name has cropped up in this regard.
As reported by Rudy Galetti, Jamie Lawrence has only five months left on his contract and talks for an extension have not progressed. For this reason, WSG Tirol are open to parting ways with him in the January transfer window. Celtic have added him to their list of players to monitor closely. There is a lot of interest in the defender.
Celtic now want to sign former Bayern Munich centre-back
Lawrence came through the ranks at Bayern Munich and also represented Germany regularly at the youth international level. But he has not able to break through into the Bavarians' senior team.
He has found a place for himself at Tirol. But now, it looks like Lawrence could be on the move in the near future.
Celtic could be a great place for him to take the next step. And he will add a physicality that the Hoops are missing.
