Celtic appear to be stepping up their interest in signing a goalscorer this summer. Reports have emerged that they have already seen a bid in the region of £7 million be rejected by CFR Cluj for their star striker Louis Monteanu. And now, it looks like the Hoops have another centre-forward in their sights, who could be available for a figure around that region.
Many will remember how Celtic missed out on Ivan Toney back when he was in League One. Now, another English third division standout appears to be on the Hoops' radar.
Celtic have already signed Callum Osmand this summer and are believed to be on the verge of adding Shin Yamada to their ranks. But it seems that they are looking to bring in a more proven goalscorer alongside them.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Celtic are interested in signing Richard Kone from Wycombe Wanderers. The League One could demand a fee closer to £7 million for the Ivorian striker.
Celtic now want £7m EFL striker who scored 21 goals last season
It remains to be seen if Celtic end up making an offer for Kone. The Ivorian is coming off an exceptional season in which he managed to score 21 goals.
Of course, it was not just about the goals from Kone. He also won the League One Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season. He is known for his physical quality as well as his ability to find the back of the net and is clearly very highly rated.
There will always be question marks about signing players from the lower leagues. But then, great talent can be found anywhere. Celtic will know that better than most. Matt O'Riley was signed by the Hoops when he was playing in League One and it is safe to say that turned out well.
