It is widely expected that Celtic will go out and sign at least one striker in the upcoming January transfer window. The club are short on options up top at the moment. Kelechi Iheanacho was their primary option there, but has proven to be injury-prone since his arrival as a free agent in the summer. Even when fit, he has been mediocre at best. On the other hand, the likes of Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada are not ready to lead the line for the Hoops, while Callum Osmand is also out injured.
Even if all of them were fit, that is not a brilliant assortment of strikers. Celtic do need someone who can get them goals on the consistent basis, like they have always had in the past with the likes of Kyogo, Odsonne Edouard, Moussa Dembele and beyond.
Interestingly, one player's name has been increasingly linked with the club as we get closer to the winter transfer window. And it is someone who has been on the radar of the club in the past as well, although a move did not materialise back then.
According to The Scottish Sun, reports in Romania and France claim Celtic are in pole position to sign CFR Cluj forward Louis Munteanu. The club wanted around £15 million in the summer but it is believed that figure has gone down to around £5.2 million since then.
Celtic now favourites to sign international striker
Munteanu enjoyed a tremendous 24/25 campaign, scoring 25 goals for CFR Cluj. But a transfer failing to materialise in the summer might have had an impact on his game.
This season, his numbers have gone down drastically. He has scored just thrice in 21 appearances for CFR Cluj across all competitions in the ongoing campaign.
So, it is not hard to see why the club might be willing to part ways with him for a third of what they wanted a few months back. Let's see if a move to Celtic ends up happening or not.
