Celtic are the best team in Scotland right now. There cannot be any doubt about that. Yes, Aberdeen have gone toe-to-toe with them in the Premiership so far but we did see the Hoops defeat the Dons by a 6-0 scoreline in the Scottish League Cup semi-final recently. So, a gap does exist between those team for sure and will probably open up in the league as well as the campaign progresses.
The aim at Celtic is always to get stronger though. And if recent speculation is accurate then they have their eyes on one of Scottish football's biggest talents.
The player in question is Lennon Miller. The 18-year-old is not only a regular in the middle of the park for Motherwell but he has even captained the Steelmen on a few occasions recently. It is very rare for someone of his age to captain a top flight club.
That just goes on to show how highly Miller is rated. And naturally, both Celtic and the Rangers are believed to be interested in the youngster. Rumours have suggested that it could take a transfer fee in the region of £5 million to sign him, which would be a record between two Scottish clubs.
Celtic named favourites to sign £5 million player over Rangers
Celtic do seem to hold an edge over the Rangers in the race to sign Miller. As reported by Football Insider, Mick Brown said:
"The choice, if he’s going to stay in Scotland that is, will be between Celtic and Rangers.
“It usually comes down to which club is top at any given time, particularly when they both go on runs of winning so many league titles in a row.
“At the moment, that’s Celtic, and Rangers have been struggling. So they’re definitely the favourites.
“They’ve got the financial power and the success in the league to attract anybody in the league.
“So it doesn’t surprise me that they’re both looking at Miller, but Celtic have the advantage in that particular race when you look at it on paper."
If Celtic do decide to make a push to sign Miller then there will only be one winner in that race. Of course, one cannot rule out the possibility of Premier League clubs coming in for the Motherwell youngster.
The likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United have been linked with Miller. So, it might be a good idea for Celtic to try and get a deal done in January itself rather than wait for the summer transfer window.
