If recent transfer speculation is anything to go by then it looks like Celtic will be aiming to strengthen their midfield in the summer. They have been linked with Kalidou Sidibe of Guingamp and Wataru Endo of Liverpool recently. Both of them are defensive midfielders. But what about the number 10 role?

Matt O'Riley left the club in the summer. Arne Engels was brought in for a record transfer fee but he has not exactly filled the void left behind by the Danish midfielder.

It is also worth pointing out that Reo Hatate has been linked with a move away from Parkhead. If the Japanese midfielder did indeed leave, the club would definitely need to go out and sign a replacement.

One player worth keeping an eye on is MIddlesbrough's Finn Azaz. He has been phenomenal in the Championship this season, and if his team do not go up, one would expect him to draw interest in the summer.

Azaz has the most assists in the Championship this season with 11 to his name. On top of that, he has also scored 10 goals. The 24-year-old has also represented the Ireland national team on five occasions.

Azaz seems to be the kind of player that Celtic need in midfield right now. Also, at 24 years of age, he will soon be approaching his prime years on the pitch and is only expected to get better moving forward.

Of course, this is only a suggestion at this point in time. It remains to be seen what direction Celtic will take in the upcoming summer transfer window. One can only hope that they end up strengthening the squad and giving themselves a better chance of going through to the next phase of the Champions League.
