Celtic making second bid for international player not ruled out

It is possible that Celtic could return with a second bid for the international player, after the opening offer was turned down.

In recent weeks, there have been talks of Celtic making failed bids for multiple players. At first, there was Louis Munteanu, the CFR Cluj forward. Then, there were believed to be multiple offers for Jakob Breum, which were turned down by Go Ahead Eagles. And more recently, it looks like the Scottish champions have unsuccessfully tried to bring in an international centre-back.

The Hoops did strengthen their centre-back ranks this week, announcing the signing of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan from Manchester City. But one cannot forget that both Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki have departed this summer, while Stephen Welsh could do the same soon. So, another addition might be needed in that area of the pitch.

We have seen Celtic being linked with a variety of centre-backs this summer. And if recent reports are accurate then they have made an offer for Adam Obert of Cagliari, which the Serie A club turned down.

As reported by Cagliari News 24, Celtic submitted a concrete offer for Obert, but Cagliari deemed it too low. It's not out of the question that the Scottish champions, or other clubs, could return with a new offer.

Let's see what the future holds for Obert. It looks like Cagliari are willing to part ways with him but only for the right transfer fee.

That being said, it might also be a case of them trying to get the best offer possible and perhaps there is some room for negotiation. If rumours are accurate, then Celtic made a bid in the region of €3.5 million and the Serie A side wanted pretty much double of that.

Of course, Celtic have seemed pretty reluctant to go big in this transfer window. They have spent just £3 million in fees so far.
