Earlier in the summer, we had thought that Celtic were eager to make an impression on Brendan Rodgers, who is in the final year of his contract, by getting their business done early. But after some initial signings, it looks like the club have frozen all talks when it comes to making signings and completely moved their focus towards parting ways with those already at Parkhead. That has meant that the squad looks paper-thin going into the 25/26 campaign.

We are just a week away from the opening of the Scottish Premiership season, as Celtic will take on St Mirren. They have only one pre-season game left, against Al Ahli. Does this squad look anywhere near ready to anybody?

The 5-1 defeat against Ajax in their latest pre-season friendly would suggest that they are not. Yet, there seem to be no signs of signings on the horizon. Other than the addition of Kieran Tierney as a free agent and the arrival of Benjamin Nygren on a bargain deal, there is not much of note that has happened this summer in terms of strengthening the squad.

Admittedly, the club have remained active in terms of transfer exits. Celtic recently announced that Adam Montgomery has joined Livingston on loan.

After enjoying an early breakthrough at Celtic during the early days of Ange Postecoglou as the club's manager, Montgomery has never really been in the first-team picture, spending the majority of his time out on loan at a variety of clubs. He looks like a player who will inevitably leave at some point soon without making much of an impact at Parkhead.

It is safe to say that fans were not impressed with the latest announcement from the club. One wrote: "Can we loan out Lawwell and Nicholson?"

Another added: "Credit where credit is due. You’ve been first class so far at players going out the way. Yes that was sarcasm."

Let's see how things play out from here for Celtic. But it is safe to say that they need to make some signigns and as soon as possible. Otherwise, they might fail to qualify for the Champions League. Remember out that competition?
