As we head towards the close of the winter transfer window, if there is one position where Celtic fans would want to see the team strengthen, it is striker. Kyogo Furuhashi recently left for Rennes, after being the first-choice number 9 for three and a half seasons. And there is a need to bring in a proper replacement for him with a Champions League knockout tie against Bayern Munich coming up next month.

Of course, Adam Idah's brace against Aston Villa is cause for optimism. Other than that, Daizen Maeda could be a possible option as a centre forward as well. And it would be a mistake to completely overlook Johnny Kenny.

Ultimately though, Celtic could do with another striker competing for the starting role. They have been linked with Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby quite a bit in recent weeks.

On the other hand, it looks like a Champions League striker is on their radar as well. Rumours doing the rounds online indicate that Celtic have a transfer bid in for David Strelec of Slovan Bratislava.

Celtic did come up against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League this season. And while the Slovakian side lost all of their group games, Strelec did boost his reputation as a striker.

Strelec scored twice in the Champions League this season. They came against Atletico Madrid and Dinamo Zagreb. Other than that, he also found the back of the net three times during qualifying.

Someone like Strelec could be a decent addition to this Celtic team. Of course, it remains to be seen how accurate the rumour of the club putting in a bid for him turns out to be. One can only hope that they do end up signing a striker before the end of the window.
