Celtic look set to say goodbye to quite a few players before the close of this winter transfer window. Could Kyogo Furuhashi be one of them? The Japanese striker has been linked with a move away from Parkhead for quite some time now. In the summer, there was believed to be interest from Manchester City and this time around, the MLS seems like a potential destination for him.
Of course, Celtic fans would not want to see Kyogo leave anytime soon. Yes, his numbers have dipped a bit since Ange Postecoglou left the club and was replaced as manager by Brendan Rodgers.
But Kyogo remains Celtic's best option up top right now. He has 12 goals to his name so far this season, which is a decent return even if not close to the numbers he was producing a few years back.
Also, one cannot overlook the emotional connection that Kyogo has with the supporters. He is one of the most popular players the club have had in years. And there is some good news for the fans hoping to see him continue playing in a Celtic jersey.
Celtic make Kyogo Furuhashi transfer exit decision
As reported by Football Insider, Kyogo will not be transferred in January. Rodgers is unwilling to weaken his squad.
That is certainly the right decision for Celtic. While the club did sign Adam Idah in the summer, he has not been entirely convincing and might not be ready to lead the line for the Hoops. Kyogo is the more proven option and someone capable of delivering in big games.
Let's see how the rest of the season goes for Kyogo. After a slow start, he has put in some good performances recently including a brace in Celtic's most recent game, against Ross County at the weekend.
