Celtic make behind-the-scenes move before Glasgow Derby

Celtic have made a significant behind-the-scenes move right before the Glasgow Derby, which will have a long-term impact on them.

It is safe to say that Celtic need to change up a lot of things, both on and off the pitch, if they are to bring the club back on track. One of the areas in need of strengthening and reinforcement for quite some time is the recruitment department. Since the departure of Ange Postecoglou, the Hoops have struggled to bring in quality talent to Parkhead on a consistent basis.

That is the primary reason why the squad has been left in this position, merely a couple of years after they had won the treble. And a year after they had made it past the opening round of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in over a decade.

In short, Celtic need to do a lot better when it comes to identifying players. Far too often, they have brought in ones who have made a zero contribution to the club before eventually leaving.

Their latest move might help in that regard. As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have brought in James Bell-Walker. He spent nine years at Stamford Bridge as the club's senior international scout.

It is true that Chelsea have had their fair share of ups and downs during that period of time. But they were pretty successful on some of those seasons as well, and it includes Champions League and Club World Cup triumphs.

Another interesting aspect of this move is that Bell-Walker specialised in identifying central defenders and then central strikers for Chelsea. Both of them are positions where the Hoops need to strengthen in this January window. So, he might already have a decent database of options available to them.

For now, let's see off the Rangers this weekend first. After that, we can focus on what's to come in the transfer window.
