This summer transfer window appears to be moving at a rapid pace. Clubs around Europe seem to be scrambling to get deals done as soon as possible and plenty of players have already changed teams as we enter July. The Hoops have not allowed themselves to fall behind, bringing in Kieran Tierney, Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand, Isaac English and Ross Doohan, while a move for Hayato Inamura is not far away from completion.
On the other hand, there have been exits as well. Scott Bain was allowed to leave a year before his contract was set to run out. And now, Greg Taylor has completed his Parkhead exit.
As reported by Celtic's official website, Taylor has today joined Greek Super League side, PAOK FC. The club posted a thank you message, recognising his contributions over the past six years.
Taylor's contract ran out this summer. Brendan Rodgers clearly wanted him to stay and the club did offer him an extension. But the left-back decided on a change of scenery, moving to Greece.
Celtic make announcement as another move officially complete
It is easily understandable why Taylor might not have wanted to remain at Celtic. After spending the last several seasons as the first-choice left-back, he would have been expected to accept a backup role, thanks to the return of Tierney.
Considering Tierney's injury history, Taylor probably would have gotten his fair share of chances if he stayed. But even then, it would have been step back for him. Especially in his prime, at 27 years of age.
Having joined the club in 2019 from Kilmarnock, Taylor had definitely played his part in Celtic's successes over that period of time. So, this was a good opportunity for him to experience something different and he has chosen to do that. We wish him well.
