For many Celtic fans, signing a new goalkeeper should be as big a priority as making an addition in any other position before this winter transfer window closes. That is due to Kasper Schmeichel's struggles between the posts, going back to last season. To be very honest, the Danish legend looks slow, unfit and well past his prime.
Unfortunately, Celtic do not have a genuine backup option either. For a while, calls were made for Viljami Sinisalo to be given the first-team spot. But when the Finnish international was eventually handed the opportunity to start, he failed to impress, and we were immediately back to the more experienced Schmeichel in goal.
Schmeichel is starting to feel like a liability in this team though. It is very clear that oppositions are targeting him as well.
Now, as reported by The Celtic Way, a goalkeeper is being considered as further backup to Schmeichel and Sinisalo. One player Celtic scouts have looked into is Aleksander Bobek of LKS Lodz. His contract runs out at the end of the season.
Celtic linked with Polish goalkeeper amid Kasper Schmeichel's struggles
It would be safe to say that Bobek would not be a high-profile addition, if Celtic did end up signing him this winter. He could do a job for the Hoops though, given the lack of quality in that aread of the pitch right now.
He is 21 years of age and has played a decent bit of first-team football for LKS Lodz. He has also represented Poland at youth international levels.
Of course, there are those who will want to see Celtic bring in a proven goalkeeper rather than making another project signing, who is more likely to fail than succeed. Now, it remains to be seen if a genuine push is made to sign Bobek.
