Cardiff City find themselves in a tough spot right now. They are in the relegation zone in the English Championship. The club are without a permanent manager as well, with Omer Riza the man in the interim role for a while now. They need to make a long-term decision soon though and could a Celtic legend be the answer for them?

Riza had started his interim spell brilliantly. But back-to-back losses have meant that there are question marks over his position and perhaps the need for the situation to be addressed quickly.

Joe Ledley is someone who had a successful spell at Celtic. And he seems to believe that Neil Lennon, who he worked with during his time at Parkhead, could be a good candidate for the Cardiff City role.

As reported by The Scottish Sun via Gambling.com, Ledley said when asked about the potential replacement for Riza:

"Neil Lennon. I think he would be brilliant there.

"With his man management skills, and the way he wants his players to fight for the club and fight for the jersey.

"I haven't seen that there for a long, long time at Cardiff. I know Lenny and the way he can play will be exactly the same as other managers.

"I'd just like to see that fight from the players and that togetherness. I haven't seen it since probably when (Neil) Warnock was at Cardiff. So I'm going to say Neil Lennon, whether he wants it, I don't know.

"I think at the moment it's right for the club to give Omer Riza a bit more time, maybe a few more games. It's the international break, so the club can have a little bit more time to think about it."

Celtic legend tipped to be next Cardiff City manager

Lennon has enjoyed quite a bit of success as a manager. But most of it came at Celtic, where the expectation is for you to win almost every trophy.

Of course, he has had positive spells elsewhere too. But many believe that time has passed him by in terms of management and his methods no longer work in the modern game.

Lennon's most recent spell came at Rapid Bucharest, and it is safe to say that it was not a productive one. He lasted only six games. Now, it remains to be seen if he can land another managerial gig.

A return to the Championship would certainly be a step up for Lennon, after his last two clubs. But he does have experience at that level. So, it remains to be seen how things play out from here for the Northern Irishman. Do not count on him being the man that Cardiff City look towards though, if they replace Riza.
